Soil Remediation
December 2016 – June 2018
Toll Brothers needed quality earth for their build at Danbury Ridge Estates. The Sweeney team answered the call, augmenting approximately 260,000 cubic yards of wet soil with lime.
Adding lime to wet soil causes a pozzolanic reaction. In plain English, that reaction generates heat and burns off any moisture in the soil, readying the soil for effective compaction.
The pozzolanic reaction makes another change to the dirt — it bonds fine particles in the soil, increasing strength and structure.
Sweeney dried, placed, and compacted this improved soil, creating the perfect structural fill for use under future roadways and buildings.
When this need arose, we were already moving a lot of earth on this job. The Sweeney team needed to maintain a very aggressive schedule while adding augmentation into the mix. While we had to adapt our existing cut-to-fill process, we overcame the challenge and are very happy with the results.
