Underground Utilities
October 2023 – October 2024
Sweeney installed underground utilities for a new apartment complex. This job required 1,900 linear feet of sewer main and 4,000 linear feet of ductile iron water main (including associated valves and fire hydrants).
Stormwater management is a major concern for any complex. We connected over 11,000 linear feet of storm drain pipe, using different diameters where appropriate. The Sweeney team also installed 70 catch basins, eight manholes, and multiple water quality structures to thoroughly clean runoff before it is discharged.
Finally, our utility work at Newfield included underground electrical, telephone, and cable television conduits. We even set up their streetlights, which required us to bury 84-foot pole bases and over 8,000 linear feet of conduit to power those lights.
The live sewer ran directly through our site. Before tying in, we’d need to bypass the existing structure. We achieved this by blocking the live pipe with a manhole, then pumping the sewage above-ground into a manhole further downstream. This workaround freed up the part of the sewer our team needed to connect.
